Message from our
Chief Executive Officer

Dear Colleagues,

I'm thrilled to share some exciting news!

Our new flagship hotel and the largest Mercure hotel in the world, Mercure ICON Singapore City Centre, has officially opened on 15 April 2024. Situated between the vibrant CBD and the historic charm of Chinatown and Club Street, this landmark hotel exemplifies our commitment to delivering unparalleled hospitality experiences.

We held a dinner by our Chairman, Mr Choo, with nearly 300 guests at Novotel Singapore on Kitchener to celebrate our 30th Anniversary and mark our remarkable progress over the past few years. Dr Tan See Leng, Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry graced this event as the Guest of Honour. As part of the celebrations, the Worldwide Hotels-Choo Chong Ngen Foundation donated a total of $2.3 million to the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) and the School of the Arts (SOTA) as part of our strong advocacy for education.

To express our company’s gratitude for your contribution, every staff member will be gifted a unique and specially designed tumbler commemorating this significant milestone. Every eligible employee will also receive a $30 celebratory fund to celebrate this happy occasion.

From our humble beginnings with the first Hotel 81 in 1994 to becoming the largest tourist-class hotel group in Singapore, owning and managing 41 hotels and over 8,600 rooms under seven home-grown brands, we have strategically pursued expansion and investment opportunities in key cities across Australia, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Thailand. As a result, the Worldwide Hotels Group currently boasts a global portfolio of 52 hotels encompassing 11,200 rooms.

These achievements highlight the dedication and hard work of our team. I'm immensely proud of our accomplishments and excited for the future.

Thank you for being part of this incredible journey!

Warm Regards,

Carolyn Choo

Assistant Vice President Finance, Corporate Finance - HQ

What interesting fact about yourself that most of your colleagues are not aware of?
Here's the scoop: I don't eat durian or most things with cheese, and I'm left-handed. I listen to and sing along with Jay Chou, JJ Lin, and Stef Sun's music and make it a point to attend most of their concerts in SG (if my fingers are fast enough to snag the tickets, of course).

Please share 1 proudest moment or memory?
There is no one particularly proudest moment; I don't think I've even had my 15 minutes of fame yet. Small wins make me swell with pride. Like finally passing my driving test after three attempts, surviving a lengthy board meeting, or seeing my daughter take the stage as the MC for a Mother's Day performance…. etc, make me very proud.

Whom do you admire most and why?
I admire people who exhibit patience and attentive listening skills. I also profoundly respect courageous leaders with extraordinary vision, such as LKY.

What drives you / what motivates you?
What drives me is the knowledge that if I can improve or complete something, the results will positively impact others, either in their work or personal lives.

Your hobbies?
When I'm not busy with work, wrangling the kids or at the grocery stores, you'll find me diving into the virtual battlefield of Mobile Legends. Yes, you heard it right. I've honed my skills thanks to my expert tutors—my kids!

Up Close With...
Andrew Lee

General Manager - Novotel Singapore on Kitchener

What interesting fact about yourself that most of your colleagues are not aware of?
I'm a drummer and baker, and I also do some volunteer work in third-world countries.

Please share 1 proudest moment or memory?
One of my proudest moments is being a father to four children and having a capable wife who takes care of our family very well.

What drives you / what motivates you?
My passion lies in serving and developing others, driving me to help people grow to their fullest potential.

Your hobbies?
Volleyball, swimming and spending time with my kids.

Getting To Know Your Neighbourhood
Ann Siang Hill & Club Street

Our colleague, Mimi, has gone around Ann Siang Hill and Club Street to show us some hidden gems but first, did you know?...

Club St was once bustling with clan associations, trade guilds, and elite social clubs. These streets were gathering spots for Chinese migrants and high society. The street likely got its name from the Chinese clubs and guilds that were central to Singapore's growth.

Today, Ann Siang Hill and Club Street is Clarke Quay’s cool, younger cousin—equally fun and always fully charged with an electrifying atmosphere after dark, a favourite with people in the know of the latest nightlife destinations.

Now, let’s move on to some hidden gems in Ann Siang and Club Street itself!

1. Ann Siang Hill Park
2. Truefitt & Hill
3. Woaw Gallery
4. Maxi Coffee Bar
5. Picanhas’ (Halal)
6. Low Tide
7. Lolla
8. Merci Marcel
