Message from our
Chief Executive Officer

Dear Colleagues,

It was a huge relief to me as Singapore and many other countries implemented significant easing of community and borders restrictions over the past 2 months. It was wonderful to re-engage face to face with our colleagues. While this represents the start of return to normalcy, we are still facing some challenges with the reduction of long-term stay guests and termination of SLA contracts for Hotel Boss and Hotel Mi.

Let us all stay align with our WWH Core Values - Teamwork, Respect, Integrity, Commitment and Accountability to deliver amazing hospitality and address these challenges head on as a Team.

Thank you for your hard work and support!

Warm Regards,

Carolyn Choo

Mr. Daniel Sim - Operations Manager, Laundry Operations
Mr. William Lew - Senior Guest Services Manager, Hotel Boss
Mr. Aimson Lu Jian Wei - Hotel Manager, Hotel 81 Gold
Mr. Eric Hew Soon Han - Executive Housekeeper, V Hotel Bencoolen
Mr. Alvin Wong - Senior Front Office Executive, Venue Hotel The Lily

Please join us in congratulating them. Thank you for making decisions based on Our Core Values and endeavouring to make Worldwide Hotels a successful and a great inclusive work environment for all of us while providing exceptional guest service during these challenging times.

Name Details
Mr. Daniel Daniel is one of our unsung heroes, operating our Hotel Laundry in far-flung Tuas. Daniel is responsible for all aspects of the operation, including personnel management and ensuring production. Unlike hotel operations, where the responsibilities and functions of a laundry plant are different. Daniel (and his team) often need to solve problems and face challenges with little external support.
Mr. William William and his team did a great job in ensuring Hotel Boss gives good services to our guests and have been voted the Best Travelers’ Choice by Tripadvisor in 2020. William volunteered to be put in charge of the whole operation at Hotel Boss during COVID. This job is quite a thankless task as he must prepare a lot of admin work and adhere to a multitude of regulations based on the multiple different ministries that he needs to stay connected with.
Mr. Aimson Aimson has been with our company since 2008. With his many years of experience in the company, he strives to support the hotel's day-to-day operations and provides guidance to FOE and coaching new hires. He even volunteered to work night shifts and let some employees have a reunion dinner with their families when there is a shortage of manpower during Chinese New Year. For 6 months, Aimson worked hard to manage the recruiting portfolio in addition to his core responsibilities of managing H81-Gold hotel operations.
Mr. Eric Being an executive housekeeper, Eric desires to ensure that each of the long-stay rooms' cleanliness is up to beat before selling to the staycation guests. He started with an OIC list of 100-room toilets that were previously occupied by the bus captain and required a thorough cleaning of toilet wall tiles. He rolled up his sleeves and began to clean the room’s toilet using the bleach that came with an unbearable smell. By walking the talk, he continued to soldier his OIC listing with support from his housekeeping supervisor Uzair.
Mr. Alvin SFOE Alvin has been one of the longest-serving front desks in the Venue sector. He is the go-to person for all issues such as amenities requisition, defects, front office matters, and even housekeeping and logistics. He is always willing to go to the branch to help when needed. Alvin is someone who can get the job done. He will not hesitate to assist any guest. He is also a trusted mentor for new hires who can share his knowledge and skills to improve our operations.

Getting To Know Your Neighbourhood - Balestier

Our colleague, Amin, has gone round Balestier to show us some hidden gems but first, did you know?...

The precinct was named after Joseph Balestier, the then colony's first American consul from 1837 to 1852.

In the 1950s, the Shaw Brothers Film Studios at Jalan Ampas produced many of the films that made up the Golden Age of Singapore and Malay language cinema. The well-known Penang-born P. Ramlee — actor, musician, and director — created his masterpieces, some starring his Singapore-born wife Saloma, in the studios off Balestier Road.

Balestier today has a special mix of the old and new buildings, which reflects its physical and social developmental history of an important suburban area for over a century and a half. The conservation of the more significant older buildings allows for its rich history to be told and passed on to future generations.

Now, let’s move on to some hidden gems found within Balestier itself!

    1. Balestier Heritage Trail
    2. Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall
    3. Wheeler's Yard
    4. Boon Tong Kee
    5. Balestier Bak Kut Teh
    6. Loong Fatt Tau Sar Piah
    7. Jom Makan Seafood (Halal)

    Local Places of Interest
    Coney Island Park

Once it was an untouched island with a solitary cow, but these days Coney Island in Punggol is looking a lot better.

The iconic solitary cow on Coney Island is no longer there but there are still plenty of things to see on this rustic island in the North-East of Singapore. The island is very easily accessible from Punggol Central – no passports and ferries involved. If you want to feel away from Singapore without leaving the country, Coney Island is a great place to escape to.

    Getting there
From Punggol interchange, take bus 84 to Punggol Point Park/Punggol Settlement. Walk about 500m east along the Punggol Promenade Nature Walk to get to Coney Island Park West Entrance.

Stop by The Punggol Settlement to get some water or rent some bikes – though you can trek the entire island on foot – before you head to Coney Island. Alternatively, you can enter from the other end of the island from Lorong Halus Wetlands.

Park opening hours: 7 am to 7 pm (Gates will be closed at 7 pm)

    What To Bring?
Take along your own water bottles, sunscreen, insect repellent, tissues and plastic bags for your trash will also come in handy. Do not eat or carry plastic bags in the presence of macaques (monkeys). Macaques may have been conditioned to associate plastic bags with food and feeding them will make them bold.

What To Do At Coney Island Park?
Nature Play-garden: This adventure area, known as the Casuarina Exploration, was constructed using felled Casuarina trees and other recycled materials.

Bird Watching: Coney Island Park is the perfect place for bird watching. This is also a popular stopover for migratory birds.

Cycling: Bring your own or rent a bicycle from Punggol Point Park. Come cycle down the main Coney Island spine and experience nature on a ride.

Nature Photography: Stroll along the boardwalk and observe the wildlife with a careful eye. You might just be able to capture a few good shots!

Nature Walks: Coney Island Park is home to a wide variety of habitats, with many interesting and diverse flora and fauna, including several nationally threatened species.

    Coping Technique for Anxiety

Anxiety is something most of us have experienced at least once in our life. Public speaking, performance reviews, and new job responsibilities are just some of the work-related situations that can cause even the calmest person to feel a little stressed. This five-step exercise can be very helpful during periods of anxiety or panic by helping to ground you in the present when your mind is bouncing around between various anxious thoughts.

Before starting this exercise, pay attention to your breathing. Slow, deep, long breaths can help you maintain a sense of calm or help you return to a calmer state. Once you find your breath, go through the following steps to help ground yourself:

This technique is one of many options you could use if you are feeling anxious or overwhelmed.

    Tip #1
    Five Things You See

Acknowledge FIVE things you see around you. It could be a pen, a spot on the ceiling, anything in your surroundings.

    Tip #2
    Four Things You Can Touch

Acknowledge FOUR things you can touch around you. It could be your hair, a pillow, or the ground under your feet.

    Tip #3
    Three Things You Hear

Acknowledge THREE things you hear. This could be any external sound. If you can hear your belly rumbling that counts! Focus on things you can hear outside of your body.

    Tip #4
    Two Things You Can Smell

Acknowledge TWO things you can smell. Maybe you are in your office and smell pencil, or maybe you are in your bedroom and smell a pillow. If you need to take a brief walk to find a scent you could smell soap in your bathroom, or nature outside.

    Tip #5
    One thing you can taste

Acknowledge ONE thing you can taste. What does the inside of your mouth taste like — gum, coffee, or the sandwich from lunch?
