Message from our
Chief Executive Officer

Dear Colleagues,

I am excited to share some significant milestones on our horizon. In Q1 2025, we will be launching our first Grand Mercure in Malaysia and a new ibis Styles in Kuala Lumpur. These projects, a result of our strategic partnership with Accor, will not only highlight Kuala Lumpur's rich cultural heritage but also make a meaningful contribution to the local hospitality industry.

We are also honored to have been recognized with the prestigious Company of Good—3 Hearts award by the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) on 18 July 2024. This award underscores our steadfast commitment to corporate social responsibility, reinforcing our reputation as a company dedicated to making a positive impact on people, society, governance, the environment, and the economy.

Our commitment to giving back was further exemplified on 15 August 2024, when 13 of our dedicated staff volunteers organized an unforgettable day at KidZania for 51 children from the Early Intervention Programme, in collaboration with SPD@Jurong East. This initiative reflects our deep-rooted culture of generosity and responsibility, and I commend our staff for their outstanding efforts.

Last week, we took part in ITB Asia 2024, where we not only strengthened valuable partnerships but also elevated our brand presence at this premier travel trade show.

Thank you for your continued dedication. Together, we are poised to achieve even greater milestones.

Warm Regards,

Carolyn Choo

Low Chan Fai

Director of Operations, Operations - HQ

What interesting fact about yourself that most of your colleagues are not aware of?
I'm a cynophilist who enjoys flora and plants. I love reading anything about dogs and know most of my neighborhood dogs' names, but not necessarily their owners' names. I recently finished "The Forever Dog," a guide on how to delay aging and provide a long, happy, healthy life for our canine companions through nutrition science. I'm eagerly awaiting its follow-up, "The Forever Dog Life," which offers tips, tools, and recipes for helping dogs live longer and healthier lives.

Please share 1 proudest moment or memory?
I was the youngest and only Singaporean Head of Department to undertake the pre-opening of a marina-golf resort in Dubai in the early 2000s.

Whom do you admire most and why?
I admire my mother the most for her uncanny ability to remain calm in unnerving situations and solve problems without frustration or confusion. I'm glad to have inherited a bit of this trait, which helps me stay level-headed during critical times.

What drives you / what motivates you?
I find tackling challenging tasks highly motivating as they allow me to learn and grow. Making a difference in the lives of others and having my contributions appreciated by colleagues drives me to contribute even more.

Your hobbies?
On weekends, I enjoy cooking and trying out different recipes, with mixed results. Visiting wet markets for ingredients is always an experience, depending on the vendors' moods. I also like planting house plants and doing simple floral arrangements in my free time.

What interesting fact about yourself that most of your colleagues are not aware of?
Although many people perceive me as an introvert because I tend to be quiet around new acquaintances, I am pretty extroverted. I am very chatty and enjoy engaging with people once I get to know them better.

Please share 1 proudest moment or memory?
One of my proudest moments was when I took the initiative to arrive early at 6:00 AM to create a task sheet for the RA team when the new opera system was implemented. This proactive step ensured that everyone was prepared and could start their tasks by 7:00 AM, setting a positive tone for the day. It's moments like these that I truly value and strive to recreate.

Whom do you admire most and why?
I greatly admire my General Manager, Mr. Charles Goh. His exceptional people management skills and strong critical thinking abilities are qualities I aspire to develop myself. My goal is to become a GM like him - knowledgeable and highly professional.

What drives you / what motivates you?
I am motivated by the drive to achieve my goals and advance my career. Before transitioning to the hotel industry, I worked as a bartender with a night shift schedule, which made it challenging to maintain friendships. Working at a hotel with a mix of daytime hours allows me to meet friends and enjoy activities like watching movies, which I find very fulfilling.

Your hobbies?
On my days off, I like to relax by playing video games. I also love travelling; I have visited Taiwan, Thailand, and Hong Kong. Taiwan is my favourite destination due to its pleasant weather, friendly people, and beautiful scenery. I am looking forward to planning my next trip, with Japan being a top destination on my list.

Phishing scams try to trick you into revealing your personal information like your login credentials or credit card details. In such cases, scammers impersonate trusted organisations – such as banks and government agencies – to contact victims, urging them to disclose their personal information by creating a false sense of urgency (You have one day to enter your password to claim a prize/complete your purchase/prevent your account from being deleted).

How can you protect yourself?
1. Think before you click on unknown links in messages and emails.
2. Only download apps from official apps stores such as Google Play Store (Android) or Apple Store (iOS).

5 Tips to Prevent Tooth Decay

Frequent snacking can lead to cavities, caused by acids from bacteria eroding the tooth's enamel. Untreated cavities can result in bad breath, toothaches, and serious dental issues. Here are some tips to prevent tooth decay.

Tip #1
Avoid Certain Food and Drinks

Sticky foods like starchy breads, chocolates, and caramel toffees are more likely to cause decay as they cling to teeth. Sweetened sodas and fruit juices, high in sugars, can also contribute to tooth decay. Avoid these foods to protect your teeth.

Tip #2
Reduce Frequency of Snacking

Frequent snacking and sipping sugary drinks throughout the day can cause bacteria in the mouth to produce acids that erode teeth, leading to faster cavity formation. Limit these habits to prevent tooth decay.

Tip #3
Maintain Good Oral Hygiene Practices

Brush your teeth twice daily and floss to remove plaque between teeth. Regular dental visits every six months are also recommended.

Tip #4
Use Fluoridated Toothpaste

Use fluoridated toothpaste daily to prevent and even reverse early tooth decay. Ensure children use age-appropriate fluoride toothpaste. Fluoride mouth rinses can also be a helpful addition to brushing and flossing.

Tip #5
Watch out for Acid Reflux

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a condition where stomach acid frequently flows back into the oesophagus, potentially eroding tooth enamel. Consult a doctor if you have chronic acid reflux, as it can contribute to tooth decay.
